Round 8 & Hall of Fame Tribute Wrap-up
May 14th 2008 13:24
Hi tippers!
this is my first post for you.
The return of State of Origin in some form saw the mighty Big V get up over the so-called Dreamteam in one of the most high skilled games of football i've seen since Tullamarine beat Maribyrnong Park in the B-Grade Qualifying final of the EDFL.
A lot of talk has once again been raised about a regular State of Origin fixture in the AFL. The problem most people don't see with State of Origin is that there isn't just 2 states where the majority of players originate from. there's at least 3. My suggestion would be have 4 teams, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and East Australia (Queensland and New South Wales), and have a 2 round elimination across 2 seperate weekends.
Now to round 8.
Friday night brings us a must win game for Collingwood against St. Kilda at Telstra Dome.
I think the Collingwood midfield is too fast and skillful for the Saints.
Collingwood by 3 goals.
Saturday's games are huge. The high flying Hawks take on the Power at Aurora Stadium.
I think the Hawks will be way too good for Port Adelaide, especially with Alastair Clarkson being resigned during the week.
Hawthorn by 10 goals.
Next up is the up and coming Tigers against the unstoppable Cats at the G.
I expect Geelong to win, but i wouldn't be surprised if Richmond give them a run for their money.
Geelong by 2 goals
Saturday night hosts a couple of interesting matches.
Carlton come up against Brisbane in what should be a fairly 1 sided affair.
Carlton by 8 goals.
North Melbourne return to Carrara against the West Coast Eagles.
Even with a potentially hostile crowd, following the Kangaroos abandoned relocation, the Roos should still win.
North Melbourne by 8 goals
Sunday sees the Crows at home to the struggling Demons.
Even on the back of their first win for the season, Melbourne will not win on the road to Adelaide.
Adelaide by 8 goals
Sydney return to ANZ Stadium (Olympic Stadium) against the injury riddled Bombers.
Once Essendon sort out their soft tissue injury pandemic, they will be a formidable team once again. But until then, they will continue to struggle.
Sydney by 6 goals
The twilight game for the weekend isn't really a twilight game, because it starts at 2.40pm Perth local time.
Fremantle host the in form Bulldogs.
Even going west the Bulldogs won't get their first loss.
Western Bulldogs by 4 goals
So there's my tips for the week. Don't be surprised though, if Richmond or Fremantle pick up an upset this week.
Happy tipping!
